It adds a few new entities to Quake 3 that mappers can use in maps. The idea here is that I've started up a mod I've called "EntityPlus". I'm repeating the word "limiting" so often on purpose, because I have a little plan that is most likely to fall flat on its face, but I want to throw it out there anyway, because this challenge would be anything but limiting. We've had challenges where you were limited in the number of brushes you could use, limited in the number of textures you could use, limited in the amount of time you could spend on it, limited in the gametypes you could use, etcetera, etcetera. Mapping challenges are nothing new to the level editing community. Recently I've been toying with the idea of invoking the creativity of Quake III Arena mappers with a new challenge of sorts. Existing links in this thread may at some point turn up dead. It would also be wonderful to have Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor back to once again handle the soundtrack.EntityPlus was hosted on Google Code, but this website will be or has been closed down. Whether it's the blood-soaked eldritch halls of the original game, or the sci-fi body horror of its sequels, Quake has always left a lasting impression in terms of setting that's just begging to be explored with current-gen technology. However, a new Quake game is certainly long overdue. In fairness, there was a 12-year gap between Doom 3 and Doom (2016), so it's certainly not as if id Software's flagship series has been routinely pumping out releases until very recently.
If it wasn't for multiplayer projects like Quake Live or Quake Champions, we'd have gone 16 years without a game in the series. The last official single-player Quake title was Quake 4, released all the way back in 2005, if you can believe that. This could signify that a remaster of the original game will be making its way to PC and current-gen consoles.īut with QuakeCon 2021 happening from August 19 - August 22, there's every chance that this Quake ESRB listing won't remain a mystery for very long. That said, the description for the game on the ESRB listing is reminiscent of the setting for the very first Quake, released in 1996.
